HIGH QUALITY ORGANICS
Intern Program for R&D at HIGH QUALITY ORGANICS (01-01-2021) 8 HOURS PER WEEK. First week- Immersion program, spend a minimum of 2 hours in each department learning the job descriptions of each department, in a general context. Not to memorize the job description; but to know, to whom they would seek out, at High Quality Organics, for a question specific to that department. Job Description Research and Development is a “support department”; directly to the Sales team, but subsequently to the Quality team, the Production team and the Management team, as well. Sales staffs require samples to be completed for prospective customers, in a timely manner and specific to their project* needs. The Intern will be trained in the science and art of the formulation of “Seasoning Blends”. They will also develop skills in the creation and archiving of the documentation necessary for those formulations, i.e. specification sheets, nutritional fact panels, formula batch cards for production and submissions to the Quality department for certification of the company formulas. They will be learning the regulatory requirements for Food Labels; writing ingredient statements, disclosing allergens on Food Labels, preparing 100g nutritional fact panels, kosher submission, NOP submission, determining organic status and retail packaging specifications. PROJECT INITIATION: Discuss feasibility of blend with sales managers, supply chain, management executives, etc. Create blend specifications for newly developed formulas. Write, archive and organize formulas into database by formula number and versions. Source new ingredients, required for customer blends or for novel formulations. Reach out to suppliers; obtain samples of new ingredients with required documents. Make samples and ship to customers. File documentation for new ingredients in QAI supplier folders. Spec sheets, nutritionals, allergen, NOP and KOSHER certs, ingredient statement management, pricing, F.O.B., minimums and lead times (where applicable). Interact with customers to make necessary changes and gain customer approval supporting the Sales department goal, of obtaining a purchase order. Generate, file, and/or arrange documentation including: As needed, creating specification sheets for formula blends. Creation of 100g nutritionals, provide to Sales department, Quality department, Customers, Auditors, etc. Able to perform the submission of newly sold formulas to; NOP/Koshering bodies, through HQO Quality department, for certification. Enter blend formula numbers including the percentages of each item code into the HQO SYSPRO program, (under components). Creation of newly developed item codes (single ingredients, packaging & formula components). Determine new ingredients/particle size codes and request single ingredient specifications sheets from the HQO Quality department staff. Check with supply chain to ensure difficult ingredients are sourced/in stock, minimums/lead times are doable, items are monetarily viable and up to the HQO standards. Participate in HQO cuppings to ensure that blends are produced to formula specifications. PROJECT CLOSURE: Once the deliverable is produced, our part is complete unless the project is reopened due to a production error or a change in customer needs. We continue to service customers and our staff by providing: o Documentation, product knowledge, assisting with client meetings/presentations. o Project management outside of product development, (hold meetings, bridge communication gaps, determining problematic elements, planning, critical thinking and following up on corrective actions).
