Executive Chef - The Club at Balsam Mountain

The Club at Balsam Mountain is a private membership, full-service country club west of Asheville, just outside of Sylva, NC. The Club at Balsam Mountain is located within the confines of Balsam Mountain Preserve, a 4400-acre property with the clubhouse located at a cool summer elevation of 3500 feet. The community is a low-density design with plans to limit housing to 354 homes with the club team currently serving 120 membership families. A drive to Asheville is just over 30 minutes. It is considered one of the top private clubs in the southeast. The Club at the newly opened Doubletop Village, includes The Summit House, The Tavern and Village Green. This is the heart of the food, beverage, and social activities of The Club. Additionally, The Ruby Valley Wellness center is located about a half mile from Doubletop Village and provides our members with wellness, fitness, swim and tennis opportunities. The Club features an Arnold Palmer Signature golf course which opened in 2008 and is a hidden gem in the western North Carolina mountains. The Equestrian Center houses horses for our members enjoyment and care. The Boarding House and rental properties provide short-term options for real estate prospects who hope to make The Club at Balsam Mountain their future retreat home. Access to The Club at Balsam Mountain is restricted to Balsam Mountain Members and invited guests. Dining Venues: The Club has two dining outlets which opened in the fall of 2020. The Tavern seats 55 and is the hub of the club’s casual setting, serving golfers, hikers, and fitness clientele lunch and beverages five days a week in season (May 1 – October 31). Fabulous burgers, unique sandwiches, and specialty lunch and snack items are complimented by local IPAs, festive seasonal libations, and Chardonnays served both inside and outside in an open-air courtyard setting. The Tavern also serves members into the evening who are dining in the upscale Summit House facility. The Summit House seats 112 and is the main dining venue for evenings and Sunday Brunch member enjoyment. Locally grown products are sourced and used to create unique recipes and a variety of meals for a well-traveled membership. Steaks, seafoods, pastas, and salads are all favorites of our mountain’s residents. A new kitchen was professionally designed, featuring a main line for primarily a la carte patronage. Spacious walk-in refrigerator and freezer hold ample inventory for our memberships’ use. Seasonal member events and a small private dining room allow member celebrations. Job Description The Executive Chef has oversight for all culinary operations and BOH personnel for two club dining outlets, member event planning, and a small catering offering. The Club at Balsam Mountain is seeking a skilled and creative Executive Chef to continue the outstanding culinary experience that has been created at the Club. The Club’s Executive Chef should enjoy creating and developing innovative menus that our mountaintop setting accentuates. The Executive Chef reports to the General Manager but has creative freedom to develop daily and weekly specialty options for the membership to enjoy. The Executive Chef will be responsible for supervision of food production for the Club outlets while maintaining the highest professional food quality and sanitation. The ideal candidate should have a culinary degree, strong leadership skills and a minimum of 5 years culinary management experience in food production. This is a hands-on position in a good working environment. The candidate should have the ability to lead and train staff in achieving the highest of standards in food quality. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and scheduling kitchen staff, preparing annual budget, projecting and controlling food and labor costs, and monitoring financial results. Being responsive to member comments and requests in a positive and timely manner is key to overall success and membership satisfaction in this role. Offering new ideas and culinary events will assist the successful Executive Chef in increasing club utilization and revenues as satisfaction supports the culinary team.

Additional Salary Information: A compensation package will include a base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
