Cook 1: This entry-level position performs quantity cooking in a food service program. Cooks at this level receive training in nutrition, cooking techniques, food quality, safety and sanitation. The position prepares and monitors high-quality food items, using appropriate methods to preserve nutrient content and produce an appealing flavor and appearance, proper texture and consistency. The incumbent also prepares food for special diets and guides the work of food service assistants.
Cook 2: This advanced-level position independently performs the same functions as Cook 1. The incumbent applies expertise in nutrition, cooking techniques, and food quality, safety and sanitation standards and is responsible for maintaining compliance with these standards. The position also guides the work of team members at the Cook 1 level.
The positions work primarily Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and every-other weekend, Saturday and Sunday.
Minimally-qualified applicants for both levels will have experience:
With food preparation and general cooking; and
Following and using recipes, units and measures; and
Following food safety and sanitation standards; and
Communicating as a member of a team
Well-qualified applicants for Cook 1 and minimally-qualified applicants for Cook 2 will also have experience:
With time management and/or workload planning; and
Quantity cooking; and
This position requires the ability to work in the conditions typically found in volume/large-scale food production (e.g., lifting and/or carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; using personal protective equipment; standing and/or walking up to 8 hours a day; twisting, bending, or reaching; exposure to chemicals; varying temperature and humidity; medium-to-heavy labor; moving in tight spaces between equipment; climbing stairs; reaching at, above or below shoulder height, moving, lifting or carrying carts, equipment and supplies, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and hazardous chemicals; etc.).
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.
Additional Salary Information: The positions include an attractive benefits package. Additional compensation is paid for alternate shifts and overtime.
